The ultraviolet (UV) resistance of the non-metallic housing or non-metallic components of the housing shall meet the requirements (see 26.10). Materials that meet ANSI/UL746C Medium Ultraviolet Exposure Requirements (f1) are considered compliant.In the absence of UV light protection measures, enclosures or housing components made of non-metallic materials relating to explosion-proof types shall be tested for UV light resistance. For industrial equipment, the test is only performed on lamps.Note 1: Internal components of the housing that are not directly exposed to ultraviolet light are generally not subject to harmful effects.This test is not required if the equipment is installed and after installation is protected against ultraviolet light (e.g. sunlight or lights), but the equipment shall be marked with the symbol "X" in accordance with the requirements of 29.3e) to indicate this special condition of use.Gaskets and seals constructed so that only the outer edges may be exposed to light do not have to meet the requirements for UV resistance. Note 2: Glass and ceramics are generally considered not to be adversely affected by UV light tests and may not be tested. Note 3: The UV resistance test is carried out on a special test rod, not on the housing, so the test rod does not need to undergo 26.4 housing test before the UV resistance test.
